See: Savannah

I know it might seem that I'm a day late and a dollar short on this one but I thought it would be fun to remember one of my favorite 2011 memories and talk about my family trip to Savannah, GA. I have long been a fan of the Southeastern United States without actually having been there so getting a reason to visit Taylor and explore an amazing city on my "list" was basically a dream trip. Something about the historical homes, southern drawl and fried food made me feel right at home.

We spent our first day on foot and quickly realized (after sweating through our respective outfits) that we needed to change things up a bit. A family Segway adventure was top of the list until a cute little storefront appeared like magic and we were all (read: Steve) spared --> enter the Perry Rubber Bike Shop. We spent the next three days buzzing around town as if we owned the place. I may or may not have cheated death a time or two as my tires skidded out of harm's way but it was so worth it. I think the best part of a vacation is doing things out of your normal routine and touring a city via bike just happened to be one of those. Please be sure to hit up the Perry Rubber Bike Shop if you ever get the chance to visit, they'll treat you right.

Some of the "must see" activities for any Savannah visitor are touring the historical homes, walking through the Spanish moss-lined parks and shopping the local boutiques. One of my favorite sights included Forsyth Park and its lovely white fountain. It was so big and pretty, a real must-see. We also cooled off with a tour through Andrew Low's amazing home and shopped at The Paris Market where I scored the most precious teacup and saucer keepsake, which of course is an essential :). I would also recommend stopping in Red Clover and shopSCAD for a plethora of creative goodies.

(As you can see, this was my kind of trip.)

Anyway, it only made sense that after long days of biking we were free to indulge on amazing pizza (twice!), lunch (& dinner!) at The Olde Pink House, ice cream at Leopold's and cupcakes at Back In The Day Bakery - all of which I would highly recommend. The most notable absence from the list is Paula Deen's The Lady and Sons restaurant which we weren't able to try but have heard wonderful things. Either way, you won't be disappointed and you will definitely not go hungry.

Sweet Savannah, you were good to me! I can hardly wait to get back and visit your wonderful City. Until then, Southern dreamin' in the Big D...

Move, Eat & Learn

Check out the incredible videos created by STA Travel. My personal favorite is "MOVE" but if I'm honest with you, they all make me want to pack my bags and go.

...now go and book an amazing trip.

*special thanks to the Boy for sending these to me, they're perfect for daydreaming.

"What ever happened to predictability?"

An ode to San Fran...

Oh how I love your pastel buildings stacked on top of one another lined by palm trees on your curvy streets. Your food and wine are delicious, the people are nice, the breeze is refreshing and your sun is intoxicating. The surrounding cities (Berkeley, Sausalito and Napa) were just as wonderful and I'm glad I got to experience them. If someone asked me what my favorite thing was I would be hard-pressed to pick just one. From the Farmer's Market to Napa to City touring, it was the perfect getaway. Cheers to our amazing tour guide and selfless companion, she made it more memorable than anyone else could.

I can't wait to luck into another cheap flight and go back.

I really tried to narrow the pictures (& videos!) and this is what I came up with. I wouldn't blame you for finishing mid-post.

Keeping up my blogging streak

A few things...

1. Yessir. Headed to San Fran this week, which technically turns this Tuesday workday into my Thursday and that makes me hyped.

image via friend of a friend on facebook (is that weird?)

2. Isn't this funny and so true? Who knows if that random film festival with tiny leaves around it is legit but you say it's accredited therefor we care.

3. Raise the roof for Summer because these 90 degree Dallas temps are letting us know that it is here.

via

4. Go Mavs! Friday's playoff game with these three Pee Wee's.

5. Last but certainly not least, brunch with the two cutest babies around.

Rejoice

Sing to God, sing praise to his name,
extol him who rides on the clouds,
his name is the Lord -
and rejoice before him.

"Feels like I'm in Grand Central Sta-tion" - Beyonce

So, I went to New York this past week...for 9 days. That's right - 9 whole days. Like I said before, this was the first time I had traveled back since I left over a year ago. I was both excited and apprehensive at the thought of going back to my old stomping ground. A lot of change happened while I lived there and a lot has happened since I left – all good things. It should come as no surprise that my bag came in just under 50 lbs, and that was before I left. I’m not proud...I never am.

Anyway, my hosts were absolutely wonderful – letting me come and go as I pleased. I forget what it is like to live in a vacation destination. For all of the fun it brings, it also comes with a few added inconveniences when you’re dealing with a 20-something and her loaded rolling bag. NYC ordered the perfect weather for my vacation and I’d like to think that I returned the favor in food consumption and general merriment. Let it be said that I took more pictures in this trip alone than I probably took in the entire time I lived there*. Even better news, I’m going to throw some at you today.

You had to know these were coming. I tried to condense and even still, this is what I came up with...

Breakdown: wedded bliss, random City pics, day Yankees game, The Oprah Show, the cutest dog (in a bag) on the street, U-s-h-e-r, rooftop party, Bleecker street flea market, and Carrie's apartment from S&TC.

*In my defense, how many times in your life do you get to attend a live Oprah show? Every illegal picture was worth it. Worth.it.
